Road Safety Week: Look out for kids!

Road Safety Week 2015 is May 4-10. Join in our activities and help us look out for kids!

Our Goal: Cross Safely

Our school zebra crossing is patrolled each day before and after school to help our students cross the road and travel safely to and from school. It doesn't improve safety if we don't use it correctly. Remember to:
  • Wait until you hear 'cross now'
  • Look both ways before you cross, don't rely on everyone else to look for you
  • Cross at the zebra crossing - it's worth walking the extra 10 metres
Evidence: 2/10 people use the crossing incorrectly or not at all
The Travelwise Team has been collecting numbers at our school zebra crossing. Two of every ten people to cross the road don't use the zebra crossing correctly! We want to see 10/10 people who cross the road use it correctly.

Solution: Look out for the Travelwise Team as they promote their Cross Safely campaign now and into Road Safety Week. Some activities we have planned:
  • Cross with a Zebra- join us in Week 2 as we cross the zebra crossing with a zebra. Give the zebra back on the other side and get a stamp to go in the draw.
  • Play the cross safely game- ask your teacher for the Cross Safely game.
  • Interview an adult- ask about their crossing behaviours and what they think are the safest places and ways to cross.
  • Caught being good- build good habits and use the crossing all the time. To promote this, the Travelwise Team will be out randomly to give spot prizes to people using the crossing correctly.
Evaluation: Coming soon.... We'll do some counts in Term 3 to see if our campaign worked. Remember, we want to see 10/10 people using the crossing, and using it correctly. Help us achieve our goal!
